Accessory Hepatic Lobe - A ‘ not so Rare ’ Entity
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction: Accessory Hepatic Lobe (AHL) is an uncommon developmental anomaly usually asymptomatic and reported as an incidental finding on cross-sectional imaging, laparotomy or autopsy. With increasing number of cases undergoing cross-sectional imaging the detection rate of AHL has increased. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the incidence and describe the imaging features of AHL using Computed Tomography. Materials and Methods: A retrospective review of CT images of patients who underwent abdominal CT for diverse clinical indications was undertaken for detection of accessory hepatic tissue within the abdomen and pelvis and the data so obtained was analyzed. One thousand abdominal CT-scans were retrospectively reviewed for the presence of AHL and when identified, were further characterized based on their location, volume and blood supply, wherever possible using existing set of

Torsion of an Accessory Hepatic Lobe with Embedded Gallbladder: In an 11-Month-Old Boy
An accessory lobe of the liver is a rare entity in clinical practice which is diagnosed incidentally. Infrequently, it may present as torsion with a clinical picture of an acute abdomen, a palpable mass, and may be associated with liver function abnormalities. Many of these patients have a history of previous surgery for congenital abdominal wall defects such as omphalocele. We present an extre...

The liver can present a number of congenital anomalies. More common among them are the irregularities of the shape and the number of lobules. The less common variations include the presence of accessory lobes or accessory livers. The accessory lobes may be attached to the liver through a mesentery or a bridge of the hepatic tissue and they are usually asymptomatic. An accessory liver lobe is a ...

of the hepatic anlage (Fraser, 1952) or by further branching of the foregut diverticulum (Ashby, 1969). Accessory lobes may be attached to the liver by a pedicle of the liver tissue or by a mesentery (Johnstone, 1965). For the accessory lobe to be viable it should have the hepatic artery, hepatic vein, portal vein and bile duct, which usually communicate through the liver, but occasionally may ...

The presence of aberrant hepatic and cystic arteries may lead to a number of iatrogenic injuries during some open surgical or endoscopic procedures. In the course of routine students’ dissection of a 62-year-old Caucasian female cadave...

Accessory liver lobe (ALL) is a rare congenital abnormality characterized by the presence of hepatic tissue outside of, but attached to, the liver. ALL is usually asymptomatic, but in the case of torsion, it can be confused with an acute surgical emergency or a tumoral mass. Conventional imaging is often inconclusive, and diagnosis is generally made during laparotomy. We report the case of a pa...
